Basic Knowledge about Conductor,Insulator and Semiconductor
Conductor
Solids having a low resistivity at room temperature are called conductors. The solids in this group includes most of the common metals such as copper, aluminum and silver etc.
Insulator
Solids having a high electrical resistivity at room temperature are called insulator.Example of solids in this group are quarts, glass and mica etc
Semiconductors
Solids
having a value of resistivity mid way between that of conductor and
insulator are called semiconductor. They very with non linearity with
temperature changes and these may possess either a positive or negative
temperature coefficient.the resistance characteristics depend largely
upon the amount of impurities in the material. example of solids in this
group are elements such as germanium and silicon and compound such as
zinc oxide and copper oxide.
